Proactive or Procrastination?

To be honest I am proactive and I also procrastinate. I guess I just worry to much and over think about way to many things. But I also use my time wisely and use it well. I may procrastinate but that doesn't mean I dont use my time with caution. I like the believe that all my time goes to use because I try to use all my time as much as I can till the last second; I could take a little time to think but when I'm done I go back and work.

When I have work to do I usually do my work then do what ever else I have to. On weekends I would do all the work like things on friday or Saturday morning. So in the afternoon or Sunday I can go out or have friends over. The balance between my productive and free time are pretty well evened out. I think the time I spend is used well according to work and free time.

Theres not much I think I would change about my habits because I spend my days well there full of work and play, mostly an even amount. What I do about my work habits is try to work wisely and try not to think about it to much. If I tried really hard and focused on the work I was doing then I'd finish it on about 20 min. Most of the time I'm working on school work or house chores and I almost always focusing on the important work but try to play to. I think my habits are good, I like how I spend my work time and my free time.

My Visual Poem

My poem is about sunsets and how beautiful they are.  I think I choose the right topic for my poem because I did a very well job on it. All the photos and videos were good for the visual poem and all the shots I got matched with the words. My visuals have a huge impact on my poem because all the visuals are of the sun setting and the clouds moving through. My imagery changed my whole poem because if I didn't have the pictures or videos my poem would be so boring and plain.

The overall effects on my visual poem impacted my poem well because the way they just fit into the video was great. The special effects change the mood of the whole poem because it fade a lot and has a transition into a different photo and that make it more soothing. When you have effects then it makes it more meaningful by showing that the audience can be conferable watching it. Other then the shots just changing with no effect. The audience probably feels better when the shots fade then when they are switching so stiffly.

Am I satisfied with my finished product? Yes I believe I did a very good job. I think my product was great it was finished with many different photos and videos. I had enough shots to cover all the audio which is good, I also showed visuals that matched the actual topic. This project was fairly easy for me especially because it was a one person project; my last project we had to be in a team and that didn't work as good as I thought is was going to be.

Finished News Story

The story my team and I made was about Henry Panui, and how he balances his work time and his surfing time. Henry Panui owns his own company so he gets to make his own schedule. There were four people in my group me, Leilia Panui, Tessa Jensen, and Daileen Barton. They are good team but I think we could have communicated more. Henry, his wife, and his sister also helped us by letting us interview them.
The final turn out of our project was okay I guess. We didn't do as good as we expected but we tried our best. Im happy with the project but not as happy as I wanted to be about this project. I thought we would have done a lot better; I would have been a lot happier if we got more b-roll, voice overs, and better interviews. Over all I'm pretty happy with it the final turn out was good we at least turned it in on time.
With the critique results I was actually not surprised, it was pretty expected that we were going to get a two. With the quality of our project it was obvious that it was going to be a two. I totally agree about a two I think we could have been way better. I didn't use all of the ability i could have, I think my whole team could have applied more to this project. I am totally fine with the score we got.

Lessons Learned

The most important part of our project is getting all the interviews and B-roll done. We have got some footage but we have had quite a hard time because our team isn't communicating very well. We are trying out hardest to get every thing done and trying to do as much wrk we can with the team meats that come help get it done. I have been making questions to ask the people we are interviewing, I have also been trying to think of good B-roll we could film so we can get every thing done a once. All the B-roll, interviews, and voice overs are going to be finished by the due date (hopefully).
My team and I have had many roadblocks we have tried getting our work done, but we tried rushing it and that wasn't very good. We tried filming three times, we were trying to get our three interviews done but it didn't work out as we planed. Our project is getting hard because not all of us can film and not all of can help out when were not at school. We have filmed one interview and no B-roll or any voice overs so we are behind. I think the biggest road block is not communicating correctly and not getting any b-roll done.

The most valuable part of our filmmaking process is getting three successful interviews. Also we have to get at least 6 sequences of b-roll. My team has gotten 3 interviews and no a lot of b-roll. These things are crucial for our project we need them but the only way we will get them is if we don't work together. My team and I have some voice overs but not enough.

HikiNo Behind the Scenes

Our project idea is about Henry Panui. He is a local surfer on the east side of kauai and he owns his own company. We are going to try get footage of him getting ready to surf and also of him working. My team has three other people Leilia Panui, Tessa Jensen, and Daileen Barton. I think we are going to finished but we are having a hard time.

When we are not filming we are usually talking about what we have to do and what we are going to do. We try to get together after school or when we are not at school to we can discuss what we have to film and shoot. When our camera is not rolling we try to get out and film b-roll because that's the most important part of the project that we don't have. We try to meet up after school so we can communicate and get done our pitch sheet and thinking about filming. My team and I always strss about our project when were not filming.

One thing I can do to help my team is to step up and be the team leader because I was in G.T. last year. I think I should make my team communicate more and get together more so we can get more filming done. My team is behind and I think it would be best if we get a camera and film as much as we can. I think our team is having troubles doing this project. But what we need to do is keep going and just finish strongly.

The Experiment

The photoshop assignment was to see what we know about photoshop and how we can use some of the tools and experiment on all the different implements so see what kind of things we can create. We did this project to get to know photoshop and try to get used to using it because we are going to use it a lot this year to do photo projects. I think we are going to use photoshop this year but not as much as last year I think this year we are going to do more video based projects then picture projects. The photoshop experiment was good to start the year off so we get used to doing thing with a lot of different tools. Photoshop will be a big thing to lean to use this year because if we take pictures we might put them in photoshop.

I think the best part on my experiment was that I used a gradient overlay, arched text, drop shadows, a transparent picture over the overlay, and the arched words were a good life quote. I tried to used a lot of things I remembered from my G.T. class last year, I didn't use all of the techniques I knew because it was hard to fit all the different things into one project. One hard thing about this project is that I forgot how to use some of the tools in the program and that made it hard to function in the document. Forgetting how to use the tools was a bad thing because it took me a while to figure out how to get all the thing in place. This photoshop experiment was easy and fun for the first project of the year.

Back to School

Hey its Jasmine this is my first post in my new school year! I have been at school for one week and two days, school has been good lately.
My favorite part of school so far would have to be when me I got to hang out with all my friends and talk. I was happy to come back to school because during summer I didn't get to see all my friends. My biggest challenge so far in school was in Mrs. Nagatori's class on the first week because we had to finish a flag that represented us. I brought it home one day to work on it and it was hard to finish because me and my family were getting ready for a hurricane that didn't evan happen. The flag project was a big part of our mid quarter grade.

This year I will try to be successful and get all my work in on time and get all my notes finished with out any difficult. I will try to stay ahead of the class so I will be a great student. I will also try to help other people. This year I will try to challenge my self more and more because I want to make my seventh grade year difficult. I hope this year will be a great 7th grade.

Five Tips For...

In the second quarter of my school my G.T class needed to create a video called five tips for. My team was made up of Nahele, Makena, and me Jasmine. We chose to do five tips for doing your homework, we chose to do this because some students have a hard times getting there homework done on time because there always distracted on there phones or T.V. We also did this to show that if your try to do your homework it could be fun and if you do your homework right when you get home then you will have more free time later. I think we did a pretty good job but there are some things that we could have done better, if my team worked together better because you can see in the video example at the top that some where filmed somewhere else. This team was easy to work with and we make a good team but if we divided the work into equal amounts I think it would have been better. Over all this project was fun and successful. Practice Profile Story

Nahela, Makena, Kalani, and I worked together for our practice profile story. The purpose of this was to get ready for the real interview and to see what problems we might run into on the real profile story. I also think this was a good thing to do because when we did the real project it was easier to do then it was for the practice story. It really helped us for the finished project and we finished the real one first and it was clear but the only reason we finished properly and efficiently was because of the practice story. For our practice story we interviewed Nahele Keale. we chose her because she had a interesting story, the practice story was about Nahele Keale likes exercising. This was a very easy topic to work with and complete but we didn't finish it on time.

Profile Project Progress

For my team and I, we decided to interview Nahela Keale's grandfather Michael Keale. Our interview was about Michael Keale and how he loves music, storys and sharing words of wisdom with others. This project was shot at Coco MarketPlace and at Michael Keale's home. We chose Michael Keale because he had a inspirational story to share and he also had a good choice of words. Michael Keale loves to play music and he shows how hard he works for what he loves.

For our B-roll and voice overs we had a difficult time trying to fine what parts of his normal life we should have filmed. Once we figured out the B-roll we needed we signed out a camera and got right to work. we got seven different sets of b-roll, when it was time to film the voice overs we were still trying to finish our transcription templet. The second time we had time to do it we went straight to work and got if done. We used lavalier microphones because we wanted to get the sound as good as we can, we used these micraphones on our voice overs and interview.

Our team had difficulties and hard times but I think we can finish this. If our team had tried hard to work together and split all the work evenly then I think we could have more done by now. All of us were stressing out more and more but the only reason that was is because we are racing the clock and trying to finish before our due date. This team had ups and downs but right now I don't think we are behind I think we are in the middle. My team can get through this project.

Our teams rough cut was turned in and also critiqued by my teacher and class, now I know what I have to work on an get done. Nahela, Makena, Kalani, and I have some things we have to work on. One thing our team has to work on is getting more B-roll to cover the green screen in the beginning and end. Another thing is we have to make less cuts & jumps in the interview. Most importantly we need to make the video shorter because out video was supposed to be 3 min to 3min and 30 sec but our video was 5 minutes almost 6. We need to fix out video project.

Composition Techniques

Composition Techniques is a way to get very interesting shots and good pictures. There are many different techniques, but I think these four are the main ones rule of thirds, unusual angles, framing, and leading lines. The rule of thirds is a way to get a better looking shots, this is when you put your subject on a side of the camera shot (Top Right Corner). Unusual angles make your image shots much more interesting then a plain old shot angles, to get unusual angles you put your camera in a low places, high places, or any where that you don't usually put the camera (Bottom Right Corner). When you Frame your shots with natural resources it makes your pictures look nice and more interesting. To get framing shots is you place your subject in the middle of a frame (Top Left Corner). Leading lines is a way to make your images look very interesting, the way leading lines work is there are lines that lead your eyes straight to the main subject (Bottom Left Corner). This is what I think of composition techniques and what I think the mains techniques are.

Three Shot Sequences

Sequencing is a group of 3 shots or clips that are similar to each other. Sequencing has interesting angles and they are usually in a wide, medium, and close shots. Most people use this in videos so they don't have to take one long video of the same thing. This makes the different shots or clips more interesting. Sequencing is a very helpful technique because it can help you get nice and well shot pictures or videos. More information found here.

Practice Story Reflection

In my G.T. class we were making practice videos so we could get ready for our real project. This practice project included interviews the interviews were about a class mate that loved to do something or was good at something. My team was made up of four sixth grades Makena Kahananui, Nahele Keale, and Kalani Young and Me Jasmine Laplante. We also needed B-Roll because our story was Nahele likes exercising we get footage of Nahele doing jumping jacks and squats ect. Nahele tried her best in her B-Roll and interview.

Our team had a hard time working together but we had lots of fun. Our team lost our interview footage the first time so we were behind but we were determined to get it done. My team was feeling like we were going to get disqualified but we still worked as hard as we could. Two of us worked on our transcription templet and the other two were working on the video in FCPX. I think that we did a good job working together but we got through it.

At the end my group tried our hardest in the last 10 minutes. We didn't think that we could make it or even finish the transcription templet. All of us were nervous but we finished the templet and the video, with only 2 minutes left we imported it but the importing took 5 extra minutes. So our team got disqualified. My team was talking and we are happy that we finished even though we got disqualified it was still a fun project. this was only a practice story we still have our real one to come more fun.

Spherical Panoramas

These are my favorite spherical panoramas and these are the steps I followed to make this work of art, find a place to take your panorama and look for a nice horizontal line. Take about ten photos going from left to right all vertical being overlapped, edit your photos, then make your panorama in PSD.5: File > Automate > Photomerge, resize your image and change the shape of the photo to a square, image > Image Size, filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates. This project was fun and great to help my class get better in Photoshop, this is my art work and how I did it.

Polar Panorama

These are my best and favorite out of all my polar panoramas I created and this is how is happened. First I found a place to take my panorama and looked for a nice horizontal line in the photo. Second I took ten photos going from left to right all vertical being overlapped 20%. Third I edited my photos, then create your panorama in PSD.5: File > Automate > Photo merge. Fourth I resized my image and changed the shape of the photo to a square Image > Image Size, 1000 to 1000 is a good size. Fifth I flipped the image upside down Image > Image Rotation > Rotate 180 degrees. Last Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates & Edit!
I put a picture of my self in one of them this was only one of the fun parts of this project. First I opened my photo on photoshop, then I chose the quick selection tool found four tools down the toolbar, I selected my brush size, after I added a selection by coloring (painting) over the parts of the image that I wanted to keep, then the minus button on the top toolbar to subtract the parts of the selection I didn't want to keep, last when I was finished I clicked refine edge to contract and smooth or feather your selection copy and paste your selection into a new layer. This is how I made these two great polar panorama.

My photomantage!!!

This piece of art was designed by putting a group of photos together which is called a photomantage. This was created by the inspiration of David Hockney I created this in my G.T class of Kapaa Middle School. This was one of the first projects we did. David created these by taking many different photos overlapping each other then he put them together so the subject he took a photos of shows up so it is seeable. This is what my class did for our David Hockney report.

Magazine Cover

This is my magazine cover I created this in my fourth period G.T class of Kapaa Middle School I used Adobe Bridge to edit my photos. I also used Photoshop to design it all this was a fun project.
